Holy Land - Byzantine Period; 5th Century AD
Inscribed terra-cotta oil lamp, “The light of Christ shines for all” reads the inscription on this Byzantine oil lamp found throughout Palestine, but especially in Jerusalem.
The Greek inscription, Jodi Magness suggests, indicates the lamps were lit during the Ceremony of the Holy Fire in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, in Jerusalem and that’s what make the oil lamp more rare and special

Width: 7 cm
Condition: Intact with some age weathering to the surface with nice earthy patina, not repaired and not restored as found
